About Nigerian Spoon
Nigerian cooking made practical for an American kitchen, with clear ingredient choices and respect for regional differences.
A useful place to begin
Nigerian Spoon brings together researched recipes and ingredient guides for US-English readers. Start with a dish you want to cook, then use the pantry notes to choose the right rice, beans, seeds, oils or flours. We explain what a substitution changes instead of promising that every swap gives the same result.
Many kitchens, many traditions
Nigeria has many regional and ethnic food traditions, and families prepare familiar dishes in different ways. This first collection covers a limited selection. Yoruba dishes such as efo riro and asaro, northern Nigerian suya traditions and foods shared across communities deserve specific names and context. We do not treat one version as the only authentic recipe.
Sources and regional context
Our recipes draw on culinary sources, with ingredient choices and method adjustments explained for American home cooks. Time ranges include the stages described; extra soaking, marinating or rising is listed separately. Use the recipe’s texture and temperature cues.
Browse a random selection, sort the collection from A–Z or search by dish and ingredient. Ingredient checkboxes and printing help you follow a recipe at the stove.
